Are Humans Natural Vegetarians?  According to Kathy Freston’s research, yes we are!  The article quoted below gives several references to support her her viewpoint.

Feston discussion about the differences between humans and carnivores makes one really think about the issue.  Meat has been part of the human diet for so long that most people don’t question it’s validity.  But then, as a group of Vegans, it is a relief to read scientific research to back our dietary choices!

Going through the comments of some of my recent posts, I noticed the frequently stated notion that eating meat was an essential step in human evolution. While this notion may comfort the meat industry, it’s simply not true, scientifically.

…In fact, our hands are perfect for grabbing and picking fruits and vegetables. Similarly, like the intestines of other herbivores, ours are very long (carnivores have short intestines so they can quickly get rid of all that rotting flesh they eat). We don’t have sharp claws to seize and hold down prey. And most of us (hopefully) lack the instinct that would drive us to chase and then kill animals and devour their raw carcasses. Personally, I feel that humans have glorified their meat eating habits — unnecessarily making it the center of their meal.  Yet, I am aware that there are numerous people who thrive on a meat diet … I am just not one of them.
